Resumen.
En este trabajo se busca indagar sobre las causas del levantamiento, así como las posiciones de todas las partes que se vieron involucradas en el conflicto, de igual forma propone, a la luz de los aportes contemporáneos, un enfoque que profundice sobre los motivos del conflicto que abarcó toda la segunda parte del siglo decimonónico.

Abstract
There is a great number of historical work that tries to explain the revolt of the Peninsular Mayans in the Caste War. In light of the recent literature, this paper will investigate the causes of the revolt, and the positions of the different parties. The aim is to provide an in depth investigation of the roots of the conflict and the motivations of the different actors.
